Keeping the ‘Hart beat’ in Longwood

Longwood’s White Hart Hotel has recently changed hands in a smooth exchange that has been welcomed by locals.

Katrina Bowden has worked at the hotel for over a year and decided with partner Owen Champion to buy the hotel when the ‘time was right’.

A big part of that timing was the welcoming ‘heartbeat’ of Longwood folk.

“The community were a big seller of it after spending so much time here,” Katrina said.

“And, you know, their love for the place and the love for each other in the community is how a community should be, where everyone helps each other out and is looking out for each other

“We were then in a position to give it a go and thought ‘well why not?’ ”

Katrina said the importance of connections within the community was a source of inspiration to keep the hotel going.

“You’ve got the farmers and, you know, sometimes they have hard days, and they simply need to come in and see people and chat to people.

“We're sort of the last standing little hub of the community.

“To lose that would be huge.”
