Last week, members of the Jamieson community and surrounding areas offered condolences to the family and friends of Detective Leading Senior Constable Neil Thompson, Senior Constable Vodim De Waart, and the injured officer.
With the support of Mansfield Shire, an Australian Flag was donated to the Jamieson community by local Member for Indi, Helen Haines MP.
The Flag was raised and lowered to half-mast each day in respect of families, friends, and police colleagues.
The supreme sacrifice made by these serving police officers recently in the line of duty is outstanding.
May they rest in peace.

Jamieson residents were saddened by the recent death of former resident, Kathleen Joan Gane, on Tuesday, September 9.
Joan, as she was affectionately known, together with her husband, Senior Constable Laurence (Laury) Roy Gane, served as Jamieson’s police officer for over 20 years.
They raised their four daughters Julie (Guppy), Wendy, Debbie, and Donna.
Joan enjoyed her family life in Jamieson.
On retirement, Laury and Joan moved to Euroa, where they resided for 30 years.
Laury passed away in 2015.
Joan and Laury had four daughters, 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Joan was very active in the formation of the Jamieson and District Historical Society Inc., the Jamieson Museum, and the successful Tidy Town Competition.
A Requiem Service will be held on Thursday, September 18, at Saint Paul’s Anglican Church, Euroa, at 11:00 am.

The Jamieson CFA management committee held its first meeting on Monday evening, September 8, to formulate the agenda for the general members’ meeting on Wednesday, September 10 — the first since the commencement of the official fire season for 2025–26.
Much time has been devoted to familiarisation with the new fire tanker for all firefighting members.
High on the agenda is the soon-to-be-held annual Hot Rods Weekend in Jamieson.
The date for this high-performance event is October 11 and 12.
The Jamieson CFA is very involved with this large group of hot rod owners and the popular Jamieson Weekend Car Show.
The CFA volunteers cook breakfast for the drivers and passengers in the Memorial Hall on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
They also cater with a BBQ lunch on Saturday.
The CFA team is looking forward to new volunteers to assist with catering during these events.
All volunteers are made very welcome.
It is a fun weekend with games and competitions.
Events include the Gold Nugget Throw, Duck Races, a spectacular Show and Shine, and a street parade of these amazing vehicles.
Street stalls with a wide variety of goods and live music complete the weekend.

The Jamieson Heavenly Arts and Gardens at St Peter’s Church has stocked up for the spring season.
The garden nursery has purchased new stock for the spring garden fest.
Spring gardeners will find a feast of plants and shrubs to tempt green fingers.
The church has been transformed into a successful gallery, displaying art created by local artisans.
Local ceramic designs and pottery have been created in the workshop of resident artisan Dianna Kilford, with artists working under her tutelage.
There are magnificent glass art pieces for sale, created by a local artist.
Paintings — oils and watercolours depicting local areas and various genres — are displayed with style and empathy.
The Jamieson community group has also successfully completed the Welcome Packs for new residents.
The packs consist of a professionally designed folder, advice and information from VicPol, and local police and fire preparation guidelines from the CFA, along with contacts for various groups.
A celebratory launch party will be held on October 5 at 12:00 pm in the Memorial Hall.
A light lunch, finger food, and refreshments will be provided by the community group.

The new stage in Gerrans Reserve is progressing well, with electricity connections being completed.
This innovation has been in the pipeline and is finally approved.
The structure is standing, the roof is on, and the final finishing of this beautiful addition to Jamieson is nearing completion.
Local resident Noel Arandt has been project co-ordinator since the idea’s conception.
He has been hands-on with the construction crew from day one.
Following months of meetings, technical changes, modified plans, and sheer determination, the permanent stage will be a showpiece for community events and social entertainment.
The Jamieson community working bees are continuing the beautification of the entrance to town.
Ric West has organised the new look at the triangle at Perkins Street, with his team of volunteers building a post-and-rail fence line.
New trees have been added recently with the help of the volunteer team.
The next working bee will plant 13 new trees along Mansfield–Woods Point Road at the entrance to Jamieson.
