Woman dies at Everton Upper collision, two others fighting for life

A BEECHWORTH woman has died and three others, including a child, were airlifted to hospital in a two-car collision at Everton Upper on Saturday afternoon.

A Victoria Police spokesperson said emergency services responded to the incident around 3:30pm when it was believed a Mazda CX-8 and Volkswagen Tiguan collided on Beechworth-Wangaratta Road.

“The driver of the Volkswagen, a 74-year-old Beechworth woman, died at the scene,” they said.

“Her female passenger was airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries.”

The spokesperson said the driver of the Mazda, a 41-year-old Beechworth woman, was also airlifted to hospital with life threatening injuries along with her passenger, a seven-year-old girl, who was airlifted as a precaution.

“The exact circumstances of the collision are yet to be determined,” they said.

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating the incident.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, has dashcam footage or any other information that could assist police is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au

The section of the Beechworth-Wangaratta Road was closed for several hours while emergency services attended.

The incident occurred nearly two weeks after a fatal single-car crash in South Wangaratta on 13 May, which killed a 19-year-old Wangaratta man.
