Lachlan Hill’s 100th game marked by narrow Euroa loss

SENIOR XVIII

Celebrating Lachlan Hill’s 100th senior game was a key focus for coach Dave Gleeson and his side as they took to a cold, wet Kings Park in Seymour on Saturday.

Seymour made a fast start on the scoreboard, booting all three of their goals in the first half.

Euroa managed just one major, but at the main break, remained well in the contest.

The second half mirrored the first in terms of weather.

Euroa began to find a more structured approach, with Marcus Varley injected into the midfield with strong impact.

Darby Wilson drove the ball forward consistently throughout the afternoon, while Jack McKernan’s ruck work was outstanding.

Cohen Paul held firm in defence, while Jacob Gleeson provided valuable drive through the centre.

The match went right down to the wire, with Euroa drawing level in the final term.

However, two late behinds gave Seymour the edge in a very tight contest.

It was always going to be a challenge against Seymour, who consistently field a strong reserves side.

With several inclusions this week, there was hope Euroa would be more competitive.

From the first bounce, the Euroa reserves matched their opponents.

James Henry and Declan Redfern led the way, while Linc McKernan, playing his 150th reserves game, provided a solid target up forward.

Nic Brodie led the defence with determination.

The wet, heavy conditions made for tough football.

As the game progressed, Seymour slowly gained the upper hand.

Despite this, Euroa continued to fight hard, even as fatigue set in during the final quarter.

Co-coaches Declan Redfern and James Henry led by example.

The return of Nick Thomson, Linc McKernan and Nic Brodie, all back from injury or time away, was a positive sign.

Their inclusion should boost the side’s chances next week against the Mooroopna reserves.

SCOREBOARD: Euroa 1.2.8 defeated by Seymour 9.9.63.

BEST PLAYERS: Nic Brodie, Declan Redfern, Nic Thomson, Alif Chambers, Brodie Asquith.

GOAL KICKERS: Alif Chambers.
