Strong start for Avenel in Midweek Pennant Division two

Midweek Pennant Division two

Avenel 14 – 64 defeated Seymour 2 – 47

Jenny Furletti, Graham Lewis, Charlie Kemp, and Geoff Hateley (s) won 14 of the 21 ends for a strong start to the new pennant season.

Leading from the second end, the final score was 24 – 12 for a convincing win.

Rusty Schwab, Grace Kenworthy, Dennis McGregor, and Spud Furletti (s) also had a solid win, taking the lead on the third end for a 22 – 15 victory.

Moiann Papageorgiou, Kate Donovan, Fay Hateley, and Noel Slater (s) were involved in a tight game all day, with the score tied with one end to play.

Seymour proved the better team and won the last end and the game by two shots, 20 – 18.

The next game for Division two is away against Shepparton Golf.

Midweek Pennant Division five.

Avenel 0 – 25 were defeated by Eildon 14 – 65.

It was a tough day out for Avenel on the long road trip to Eildon. Elaine Mason, Pam Pedder, Marg Harrison, and Marion Gittus (s) lost 12 – 32, with Eildon storming home by winning the last six ends.

Congratulations to Elaine Mason on her first game of pennant bowls.

Robyn Hyland, Mark Morse, Ron Harrison, and Bill O’Connor (s) suffered a similar fate with a 20- loss, 13 – 33, against an experienced and accurate opposition.

The next game for Division five is at home against Colbinabbin.

Weekend Pennant Division two.

Avenel 2 – 63 were defeated by Seymour 16 – 90.

Dennis McGregor, Graham Lewis, Spud Furletti, and Geoff Hateley (s) had a shaky start, being nine down after the first five ends.

With sheer determination, they clawed their way back into the game, winning 12 of the next 16 ends in a great team effort.

Avenel claimed a 23 – 17 win.

Jenny Furletti, Moiann Papagergiou, Charlie Kemp, and Jake Wall (s) were competitive until mid-game, when Seymour won seven of eight ends.

Unable to recover, Avenel lost 13 – 19.

Howard Geldard, Kate Donovan, Fay Hateley, and Noel Slater (s) saw Seymour get off to a lightning start, 16 shots up by the 11th end.

Avenel fought back, winning nine of the remaining ten ends.

However, Seymour had done enough to claim a five-shot win, 21 – 16.

Seymour were dominant against Rusty Schwab, Grace Kenworthy, Josh McDonald, and Brett McDonald (s).

With confident and accurate bowling, they left Avenel behind in a 33 – 11 win.

The next game for Avenel is at home against Nagambie.

Weekend Pennant Division six

Avenel 0 – 31 were defeated by Murchison 14 – 41.

Down by seven on the 18th end, Kyle Pedder, Mark Morse, Marion Gittus, and Ross Sinclair (s) won the last three ends in a thrilling game but fell short by one shot, 16 – 17.

Walter Pedder, Pam Pedder, Ron Harrison, and Donna Rowley (s) were as many as eight down by the eighth end.

Scoring 11 shots over the next five ends, they were up on the 13th end.

However, Murchison regrouped to win all but two of the remaining ends and the game, 24 – 25.

The next game for Division 6 is away against Merrigum.

Avenel Bowls Club Trivia Night

Avenel Bowls Club will hold a trivia night on Friday, 21 November.
