Single goal tumbles B Grade out

A GRADE

EUROA: 73

SEYMOUR: 34

Euroa's hopes of two A Grade premierships in succession look good after a crushing win over Seymour on Sunday.

The Magpies jumped the blocks with a 20-5 quarter-time score line and never looked back as they charged to what looks like another premiership year, booking their third grand final appearance in as many years.

Euroa went on to more than doubled the Lions' score in a rout that suggested either there is an imbalance in the GVL finals series or else the Euroa girls are back at their scintillating best at just the right time of year.

Olivia Morris shredded the net with 41 goals, taking her season tally past 1000 (career total 2625).

Helping out Liv in attack was the indominable Mia Sudomirski with a season-topping 32 goals, eclipsing her previous highest of the season (20 against Tatura in Round 8) and pushing her season to 215 goals and career tally past 1600.

Sudomirski was a stand out best on court, supported well by Hollie Reid up to her usual antics of sending out good feeds into the forwards from centre and Kellie Davidson dominating in defense.

B GRADE

EUROA: 42

SEYMOUR: 43

In a gripping preliminary final that had spectators on the edge of their seats until the final whistle, Euroa’s B Grade team suffered a heartbreaking one-goal defeat to Seymour, falling just short of a grand final berth.

From the first whistle, the intensity was undeniable; both teams brought fierce defensive pressure and precise passing, trading goals through the opening quarter.

The Magpies showed their intent early, with Molly Redfern and Sarah Ternes dominating in the circle and converting under pressure to give the team a narrow lead at quarter time.

The second and third quarters saw momentum swing back and forth.

Euroa fought hard in midcourt, with solid performances from Millie and Ruby Watson, and Bree Sudomirski.

All three girls turned over crucial ball and fed well into the attacking end. However, a few costly turnovers allowed the Lions to edge back into the contest, setting up a nail-biting final quarter.

Leading by just one goal heading into the last five minutes, Euroa gave it everything they had. Bree Poole’s fresh legs allowed continued drive into the attack, and defenders Katy Frewen, Kelly Hill and Brodie West stepped up even further, forcing errors and creating opportunities. Despite the scores being level with under a minute to go, a final centre pass to the Lions proved decisive.

The final whistle marked an emotional end to what was a gutsy, courageous effort from Euroa.

Sarah Ternes and Molly Redfern gave their all with 25 and 14 goals, respectively, but at the other end Seymour's Ashlyn Webster scored the last four goals of the game in the final five minutes on her way to a modest 37 goals and nudging the Lions ahead by one at the final whistle.

Kelly Hill and Katy Frewin gave their very best in defense and were left wondering if it was enough, while Bree Sudomirski carved up the wing.

Coaches, teammates, and supporters alike were left proud but heartbroken.

2025 has been another great season.

Ahh, what could have been.
