Quality Angus reap rewards

OUTSTANDING prices were paid for some of North East Victoria's most noted Angus cows and heifers at a special female sale conducted by Peter Ruaro Livestock–Rodwells at the Wangaratta Saleyards last Friday.

Ross and Judy Davis of Wolbunya at Benalla dispersed close to 600 of their Angus cows and heifers, fetching prices up to $4700 per head.

"It was a complete drop of autumn calving females and the quality herd was reflected in prices paid," said agent Peter Ruaro.

"The prices were $800 to $1000 dearer on recent sales.

"Ross and Judy bought the property 25 years ago and have used some of the best genetics to build up their Angus herd.

"The quality cattle drew some wonderful competition and solid prices.

"Alot of the cattle will stay in the North East, some will go to the Riverina, up to Goulburn and the Tablelands, and also down to Pakenham and Gippsland."

Mr Ruaro said that with a magnificent season just gone and another coming, the demand to restock and rebuild herds with quality cattle had driven prices.

Wangaratta saleyards manager, Andrea Nankervis, said it had been great to be able to conduct the sale, for such an outstanding offering.

Mr Ruaro, who began his career in Wangaratta, said all concerned were delighted with the overall outcome.
