Tax time coming soon....farmers buy big

WITH the media focusing all of our attention on the upcoming federal election, it's easy to forget that it won't be long before we'll be doing our tax returns.

Here are some words of advice from Aussie Pumps, a genuine Australian manufacturer of great products, designed just for Australian conditions and applications.

100 PER CENT DEPRECIATION

Farmers and businesses with a turnover of less than $10,000,000 get the benefit of 100 per cent write off on assets worth individually up to $150,000.

The benefits are enormous.

Farmers who are revelling in the wonderful conditions of the last two years and the huge results of their labour and subsequent profitability, need to understand that now is the time to buy and take advantage of those tax rules.

Australian Pump has come up with a series of great ideas which will appeal to farmers and tradies.

Aussie Pumps' finance manager, Brian Cocker said "don't pay more tax than you have to – but do stick to the rules".

GETTING VALUE FOR MONEY

Because Aussie Pumps is a small Australian company with only 50 employees, they don't carry the huge overheads of the big corporations.

That independence means that they can pour more money into product development.

Their inspiration is feedback from a wide range of customers who use the products that they make.

Their preoccupation is self–priming centrifugal pumps and high pressure water blasters.

That may sound simple but the range they have developed over the last 28 years is the most complete and versatile in the industry.

"When doing our design work, we always talk to users to get feedback for what they think the product should be like," said Aussie Pumps' chief engineer, John Hales.

"The engineering and design team always want to know what the user thinks because they, after all, have had more on the job experience than we ever will."

The results are products that represent real advantages over both local and imported competitors, that are safer and more economical to use, and represent significantly better value for money.

AUSSIE'S SELF PRIMING REVOLUTION

When they surveyed users including CFA and other semi professional volunteer firefighters about what they wanted in a self–priming pump, they received a wide range of responses.

The first unanimous one was reliability.

That resulted in the development of what is today regarded as being the most versatile and complete range of self–priming centrifugal lightweight portable fire pumps in the world.

Starting with their model QP1, an UItralite pump that weighs in at only five kilos, they developed a product that would do over 100 litres per minute (lpm) in flow and a maximum head of 40 metres.

That is not bad considering it also self–primes from 7.6 metres.

From there they developed the QP154SX Ultralite.

This is a 2.5 horsepower high speed Honda engine driven self–priming pump that produces up to 200 lpm flow and heads as high as 60 metres.

Its extraordinary performance has been a big seller in countries like Indonesia for forest firefighting where light weight is required.

Yes, this pump, even with that performance weighs only 9.8 kilos.

That pump self–primes from a vertical lift of eight metres.

"The reason we call them QP pumps is because those letters stand for 'Quik Prime'," said Hales.

"Our pumps prime better, from lower depths than any other brand in the Australian market, and without priming aids or foot valves."

The company's flagship product is their Aussie Fire Chief, Honda powered lightweight portable fire pump.

It delivers 25 per cent more performance than competitors, and offers performance figures of up to 450 lpm and heads as high as 75 metres.

TRASH PUMPS TOO

A natural development of the company's product was to move from firefighting pumps to water transfer and trash pumps.

The company offers a range of trash pumps from 2" to 6" with maximum flows as high as 6000 lpm.

That's a huge amount of water to move and is ideal for flood mitigation in today's world of unstable climate conditions.

CLEAN–UP AUSTRALIA

The company has done a huge amount to develop what amounts to being quite unique engine and electric drive pressure cleaners.

Conceived, designed and built in Australia at the 2 ½ acre Aussie Pumps' works facility in Sydney's Norwest business district, the machines offer features that are significantly upgraded from imports from Europe or third world countries.

"Again, it is the contact with users that drives our innovation," said Hales.

The big breakthrough was the company's unique "Scud" frame design.

Built in stainless steel, these ergonomic designed frames house either Honda petrol or Yanmar diesel engine drive heavy duty pressure cleaners.

They are suitable for a wide range of tasks from dairy washdown to contract cleaning, local government work or trades like concreting, brick cleaning and of course plant washdown for those in the earthmoving or quarry industries.

The Scud's unique design is its curved sculpted frame.

There are no sharps and when fitted with big 13" steel wheels with flat free tyres, the machines are highly manoeuvrable.

The heart of the system is a "Big Berty" Bertolini pump, gearbox drive running at slow speed (1450 rpm).

They are designed for a long and trouble–free life.

The latest introduction of the Scud is a high flow version suitable for big truck washdown or even for that matter, moving livestock effluent from dairies, piggeries or similar applications.
