Whether you’re a green-thumbed gardener, a curious student, or someone who just loves a long shower, Goulburn Valley Water says National Water Week has something for you.

Running from 20 to 26 October, this year’s program is packed with fun and thought-provoking events to get people thinking about how they use water – and how they can use it better.

“Water Week is a powerful reminder of how essential water is to our daily lives, and how easy it is to take it for granted,” said Managing Director Dr Steve Capewell.

“We’ve created a program that offers something for everyone – whether you’re six or ninety-six – and we hope people take the opportunity to get involved and make water saving habits stick.”

Kicking off the week is the free Let’s Grow Waterwise Gardens event on Wednesday, 22 October, at Riverlinks Eastbank, Shepparton, from 7pm.

Landscape architect Louise Costa and Cathy Olive, Euroa Arboretum Development Manager, will share tips on creating resilient, low-water gardens.

The session will also be livestreamed at gvwater.vic.gov.au

On Thursday, 23 October, Water Night will see households switch off all non-essential taps from 5pm to 10pm, embracing the theme “From Habit to Hero.”

Prizes are on offer nationally and locally, with schools, sporting clubs and families encouraged to participate.

People can sign up for Water Night or become a Tap Guardian at gvwater.vic.gov.au/community/national-waterweek

The annual school competition, themed “Don’t Flush It,” invites students to design toilet paper wrappers reminding us to only flush pee, paper and poo.

National Water Week is both a celebration of the water that sustains us and a call to action to protect it.
