The Euroa Under 12s travelled to Tallygaroopna for their first game of the season.

After being sent in, openers Tom Goss (19*) and Henry Williamson (7*) got the team off to a steady start, both retiring after their 15 balls.

Jaegar Saxon (15*) and Charlie Hemeter (16*) continued the momentum before also retiring, and were supported well by James Jackson (7*).

After playing the shot of the day and clipping his first ball for a boundary, Selby Burke was bowled the next delivery for four, with Euroa losing their first wicket to be 1/68 in the 11th over.

After losing another quick wicket, Bailey Nunn and Max Squires steadied the ship, with Squires (4*) and Nunn (11*) opening the shoulders up and finding the boundary twice late in his innings.

Goss and Williamson returned to finish unbeaten on 23* and 14* respectively, guiding Euroa to a strong 2/109 from 20 overs.

Euroa’s bowlers and fielders then performed strongly to keep the Northerners’ innings in check.

Henry Williamson struck early to take the first wicket, with a sharp catch from Jaegar Saxon, before bowling the other opener in his next over.

Saxon soon added a direct hit run out, and Ted Jacotine nearly joined the action with another sharp throw, though the batter was just home.

It didn’t take long, however, before Tom Goss produced a brilliant direct hit of his own, leaving the Northerners struggling at 4/17.

Saxon claimed a wicket in his second over, and James Jackson wrapped up the innings, taking the last two wickets, leaving Northerners 7/33 after 11 overs.

Best of the bowlers were Williamson (2/3) and Jackson (2/6), while Max Squires put in a fantastic first performance behind the stumps.

A superb allround performance by the whole team to start the season, highlighted by disciplined batting, sharp fielding, and excellent bowling.

Euroa return home next week to take on Old Students.

SCOREBOARD: Euroa: 2/109 (T Goss 23, C Hemeter 16**) defeated Northerners: 7/33 (H Williamson 2/3, J Jackson 2/6)
