The final round of the 2025 Nagambie Golf Club championships was played in cold and testing conditions, with the daytime top barely reaching double figures.

A thrilling finish took place on the 54th and last hole, where Michael Sloan captured his second championship 20 years after his first.

Sloan was one shot behind heading down the last after an almighty tussle with Michael Roberts throughout the three rounds of championship golf.

A three putt at the last from Roberts left the door ajar for Sloan, who calmly sank a one putt to clinch the championship with a total of 232.

Sloan attributed his win to a more structured approach to his putting and a stronger ball flight.

Congratulations to Michael Sloan, the 2025 Nagambie Golf Club champion.

The B grade championship was claimed by Des Phelan with a wire-to-wire victory.

Phelan took the lead in round one and was never headed, finishing with a 227 net total, two shots ahead of runner up Phil Hageman on 229.

In C grade, Hugh Lawrence led by eight shots going into the final round.

With a much improved game and calm demeanour, Lawrence maintained his lead to finish six shots ahead of runner up Doug Neville, closing on 229 to Neville’s 235.

The stroke event was won by Rod Wilson, who shot the only handicap equaling score of the day, 99-27-72.

Wilson gladly claimed the Seymour Club matchday voucher, finishing ahead of surprise of the day Barry Cryer on 104-30-74.

Third place went to last week’s winner Graeme Cusack, maintaining his run of good form.

Nearest the pin prizes were awarded on all holes.

Michael Roberts burst one onto the third, Des Phelan showed his B grade credentials at the eighth, Shane McCormick played a vintage iron onto the 13th, and David Love impressed on the tough 16th.

Special thanks to Jim Ewart for donating a lamb for Sunday lunch, and to Annette and Jeff Mills for superb preparation.

Thanks also to all golfers who completed the three rounds and helped make the event a success.

Next week’s golf will be a much needed Stableford event and the third round of the Social Club Trophy.

On office duty is D. Brown and in the bay P. Neville.

Good to see 21 players return to the course for the Wednesday Stableford round this week, sponsored by Evans & Associates Accountants.

Mr Consistency Paddy McCarthy won the day with 35 points in a countback over Alex Burton and Peter McMahon.

Dick Farmer collected a ball on the line on 34 points.

As if winter golf at Euroa isn’t hard enough, the syllabus threw up a par round on Saturday.

Dan Murphy was up to the challenge and finished square with the card, while the rest of the field returned scores with a minus in front of them.

Ball winners were Richard Eddy minus one and Don Bubeck minus two on countback from four others in a day that threw up plenty of challenges.

Only Brian Rosenbrock picked up the sole daily nearest the pin, while no one managed to find the green on the fifth, eighth, 12th, or 15th in a result never before seen.

Paddy McCarthy took out the Drive and Pitch on both the 11th and 16th, but nobody could get a fourth or seventh.

The nine hole Sunday competition is back on each week.

Enter yourself any time.

With spring conditions just around the corner, it’s time to shake the cobwebs from the clubs and head out for a social or competition round.
