The Mansfield RSL Sub Branch is receiving positive feedback from members about the recent renovations that have transformed the memorabilia room into a new and inviting space according to its president Ken Thompson.

The restoration was part of 2024-25 Victorian government Veterans Capital Works grant program which helps organisations improve buildings or facilities that deliver services to the veteran community with successful recipients notified in April this year.

The required work was done in a relatively short period to bring the memorabilia room back up to scratch and create a useable space for members and visitors to utilise, Mr Thompson said.

This involved the removal and replacement of the existing floor which was rotting in places; upgrade of plumbing and drainage; remove and replace lighting; repaint entire room; install new carpet; remove and replace existing windows and doors.

“The renovation has created a welcoming space that was underutilised previously,” said Mr Thompson.

“It was an opportunity to curate the memorabilia and make it more accessible to view.

“It is also creating a sense of pride for members in their local RSL sub branch."

An added attraction is the billiards table that can now be used for games among members and visitors – creating another social interaction.

All the members the president has spoken to have been extremely positive about the renovations.

“Most made the comment that the front room looks very modern; whilst the back room has now a lot more character,” he said.

Mr Thompson encourages locals to visit on a Friday night for a drink, buy a raffle ticket and enjoy the open fires during winter.

The RSL welcomes social members and those that serve in the emergency services and other agencies.

The next significant event for the Mansfield RSL is Remembrance Day on 11 November at 11am sharp at the Mansfield War Memorial in Highett St.

All are welcome to attend this service which honours not only World War One servicemen and women but all who have served in various wars and conflicts.
