New octogenarian David Keall lost no time slotting into Nagambie life when he and wife Lois settled there in 2012.

On Saturday, 11 October, David celebrated his 80th birthday at the Nagambie Senior Citizens Clubrooms at a party with his family and friends.

David became an active member of the Nagambie RSL when the couple moved into the community, even leading the group as their president for some years and supporting his band of workers for the 100-year commemorative week in 2014 which marked the century since Australia joined the First World War.

That week of events earned the RSL the Strathbogie Shire’s Nagambie Event of the Year award the following Australia Day.

David is known for leading the RSL at quite a few Anzac Day and Remembrance Day ceremonies and took the time when president to ensure the club was a viable one in the community and with the nearby army units who support the club.

The Kealls are also involved with the Nagambie Lions Club and St John’s Anglican Church, and David became the first president of the Nagambie Lakes Men’s Shed when it was formed over a decade ago.

Not stopping there, David has been a keen volunteer at Nagambie Primary School, helping the students when he could on a regular basis and also listens to students read at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School.

Sadly for Nagambie, the couple – married for some 58 years – is moving away from the area.

David took time to thank those who joined him at his 80th party and for the many cards, gifts, and well wishes he received.

Not only do we congratulate David on entering his now ninth decade, but we commend him and Lois for their enormous contributions to Nagambie life for many.

Their contributions helped to make the local community a better place to live.
