Benalla Art Gallery is inspiring creativity across the community with a series of engaging workshops and public programs running over the coming months at different venues in Benalla, while the gallery building undergoes major redevelopment.

Designed for participants of all skill levels, the workshops explore a range of mediums — from drawing and painting to festive wreath-making — offering opportunities to learn new techniques and connect with leading local and regional artists.

The series kicked off with a drawing workshop by Karen Brown on 25 October and continues with a watercolour workshop with Jana Brook on Saturday, 22 November.

It will be held at the gallery’s popup space at 75 Bridge Street East, where Brook will guide participants through the fundamentals of watercolour painting.

Celebrate the festive season on Saturday, 6 December with a dried native wreath-making workshop led by Felicity Pasztaleniec of Everlasting Floral Studio, using sustainably sourced Australian flora.

Gallery director Eric Nash said the workshops offered an opportunity for participants to experiment creatively while learning directly from professional artists.

“We have an incredible community of artists here in the North East who are continually making and sharing their work,” he said.

“Our workshop program supports hands-on creative experiences and helps participants gain a deeper understanding of artmaking — whether they’re pursuing a new hobby or refining existing skills.”
