The Euroa Garden Club held its monthly meeting on Friday 19 September at the Euroa Golf Club, which always proves a great venue overlooking the greens and trees.
Something exciting is that the club is going to attempt to write a synopsis of its history – members (past and present) are asked to gather any historical information – pamphlets, memorabilia etc. that people may have that could give an extra insight into what the club was up to years ago.
This month's floral competitions focused on camelias and they were a beautiful sight.
We grow so many varieties of camelias – the colours (predominantly shades of pink) were wonderful.
Winners of the categories were:
Three staged camellias – Jim Brook and Joyce Hollingsworth
Three camellias floating – Joyce Hollingsworth and Julie Burke
Specimen cut or bloom – Beryl Harris and Neville Bredden.
In literature, one poet referred to herself as a Camellia - Sylvia Plath; but it's a silver plate that is given each year for the most outstanding camellia blooms in the Euroa Garden Club.
The 'Camellia Tray' was awarded to Jim Brook - his second time.
Well done Jim.
Members were then treated to a very informative demonstration by local gardener Pam Case who showed everyone how to arrange flowers in various vases that show off their colour, foliage, and style.
The highlight of the afternoon came when members were given the opportunity to put what Pam had shown them into practice by arranging their own flowers, focusing on Pam's techniques, considering balance as well.
Pam loves flowers so she shared, with just a few simple tips, how to arrange seemingly unrelated flowers into a picturesque presentation.
Everyone in the Euroa community needs to be aware that the annual Over the Fence garden competition will be happening soon.
Judges will simply walk the streets, looking at front gardens that display an affinity between house and garden, cleanliness and neatness, quality of lawn (if applicable), and permanent plantings such as large trees and shrubs.
Accessories will also be taken into account such as water features, sculptures, and outdoor settings.
Overall judges will be looking for a sense of design, colour, and balance.
The next meeting of the Euroa Garden Club is in Longwood at 97 Gilberts Road this Friday 17 October at 1:30pm.
