Blue spring skies over Euroa on Sunday 5 October was only the beginning for this year's Mitchelton National Australian Show & Shine.

The momentous event shone throughout the crisp morning and overcast afternoon in an air that warmed as it filled with history, throttle, shine, and passion.

Over three thousand people came through the gates on the day to marvel at an eclectic collection of cars, utes, motorcycles, and hot rods.

The day did not disappoint, with the new street layout proving to be a winner for everyone.

Nothing could outshine the numerous division winners and entrants than Best in Show recipient Dan 'Dixie' Kumurdian who won with his 1981 DeLorean time machine.

The Ian Langlands Memorial Under 30s Encouragement Award went to Zac Jones for his 1963 Ford Zodiac, and Best Club Display was won by the HSV Owners Club Victoria.

The catwalk was the other place to be earlier in the day with the theme of Hollywood Heroes proving popular.

Kym Sanderson won the fashion show dressed as Cruella de Vil from the 1996 classic movie 101 Dalmatians.

The Show & Shine's master of ceremonies Josh Crute said the quality of the day’s ‘wares’ were worth a look.

“This is one of those unique experiences, where unless you get a chance to go to one, you'll never know what it’s about,” Mr Crute said.

“And even if you’re not a car-lover per se, there’s something unique about a Show & Shine.

“Whether it's the hot rods, whether it's a full history of Ambulance Victoria around the side there or anything else, you can learn more every year about new cars.

“There might be certain cars that I like because they look nice, but then talking with some of the vendors here today, I've learnt more about the history behind the vehicles than what I thought I would ever, ever learn.”

Mr Crute said the Best in Show-winning feature vehicle DeLorean was an ‘absolutely beautiful thing’.

Dixie brought his DeLorean from Brighton and found it turned heads on the day thanks to his painstakingly accurate conversion of it into the time machine from Back To The Future Part II.

The gull-winged vehicle was modelled as an exact replica of the film trilogy’s iconic car, costing Dixie 'about half a mil’.

The DeLorean was intercepted by The Euroa Gazette on the Hume Freeway for some sunrise action shots that morning.

Thankfully, the car did not reach 88 miles per hour and so stayed in the year 2025.

“The response to this car has been great, it always is,” Dixie said after only the first hour of exhibiting.

“We have authentic replicas of not only the car’s fittings but also prop replicas from the movies on display.”

With a push of a remote-control button, ‘ice smoke’ poured from underneath the vehicle while inside it the famous flux capacity blinked away, the time machine’s destination panel set at 1985.

The Best in Show trophy was presented by Anthony Divers from the event's main sponsor Mitchelton Wines.

Key to the Show & Shine's success was the contribution of community groups at each gate that helped with the smooth running of the day.

In return, the Show & Shine committee will give a generous contribution to each group.

Riley Casanova from Molka represented a handful of local basketball mates and manned the gate at Seven Creeks Park with his mother Carrie Donaldson.

He will use the contribution to fund an upcoming trip to the US.

Although the sixteen-year-old has only been playing basketball in Euroa for two years, the rising star qualified this season for the Northeastern Bushrangers Basketball Club which is headed stateside.

“I could hardly dribble or pass back then,” Riley said.

“Now he's one of the leading goal scorers,” a very proud Carrie chipped in.

The tall forward has just won the coach’s MVP for the Bushrangers and is looking forward to playing in Dallas and Los Angeles in December.

Mr Crute said there were other unique vehicles on display.

“It's exciting to see where we came from to where we are now,” he said.

“There's a one-of-one Ford XY GT panel van here.

“It's the only one in existence, and we have it here at the show, and that's something that some of these - especially some of these young people that will take over the show eventually - will never otherwise get the chance to see in real life.

“And now it's here at the show, so people that are GT lovers, people that are Ford lovers, can see a one-of-a-kind thing here at Euroa.

“The whole day is really good for the local town, it's good for the community, bringing a lot of people from around Australia.

“Some of these folk will travel all of Victoria, all of Australia, doing this; this is their passion, this is their love.”
