Euroa’s courts buzzed with energy as the Goulburn Murray Lawn Tennis Association competition served up an exciting opening round of top tier action.

In the Open Section, Euroa Mustangs made a strong statement, defeating Shepparton Lawn Pelicans 8 sets to 3.

Team captain Bede Redfern led by example, winning all his sets in a commanding performance.

The final score saw the Mustangs ahead 74 to 54.

Section two featured an all Euroa showdown, as Backmarkers and Brumbies treated spectators to a thrilling tennis masterclass.

Backmarkers emerged victorious, also by 8 sets to 3, with Jai Harrington shining thanks to dominant wins across all his matches.

The final score was 71 to 43 in favour of Backmarkers.

Section three continued the local rivalry with Euroa Dead Certs taking on Unicorns.

Despite being undermanned, Unicorns started strongly with singles wins from Bob Furphy and Josh Higgins.

However, Dead Certs skipper Mark Borthwick turned the tide with three stellar performances, conceding just seven games for the day.

His efforts helped secure a 64 to 39 win for Dead Certs.

Meanwhile, Euroa Rancho Rulers made light work of visiting KPOS Captains.

A standout mixed doubles performance from Chris Ellis and Brent Moore, who did not drop a single game, helped widen the margin.

The team also celebrated the return of Kate Burnside to competitive tennis, who teamed up with Scott Meehan for a mixed doubles win.

Rancho Rulers finished with a 69 to 38 victory.

In the Benalla and District Tennis Association, David Vaughan’s Euroa Lawn team faced a slick Nagambie outfit.

Despite several close contests, the highlight for Euroa Lawn was a winning set from Lyn Johnson and Lisa Krepp.

The final score was Euroa Lawn 25 to Nagambie 51.

A special thanks to greenkeeper Phil Mollison for presenting the courts in immaculate condition, setting the stage for a fantastic day of tennis.
