Glorious sunshine greeted players across the district for Round 13.
In Euroa, Creighton’s Creek welcomed Terip, Moglonemby hosted Euroa, while Benalla hosted Delatite, and Wappan welcomed Seven Creeks in Mansfield.
In perfect weather Moglonemby were up against ladder leaders Euroa.
Moglonemby’s Judy Sands and Marlene Hanrahan won the first set 8-3 against Lyndall Bigland and Ruth Nolan, while on the other court Danielle Scotis and Lisa Krepp lost 2-8 to Julie Harrington and Robyn Johnson.
By the second set Danielle had warmed up and, partnering Judy, won 8-6.
Moglonemby’s Marlene and Lisa also took their set 8-7.
However, Euroa secured the last two sets 8-5 and 8-6, giving them victory by just three games and the exact margin as in round one.
There were long rallies, plenty of lobs, drop shots and plenty of fun, but Creighton’s Creek and Terip were having just as much enjoyment judging by the laughter and chatter from their courts.
Creighton’s Creek’s Chris Ellis and Debbie Seach took on Frances Lawrence and Phoebe Macdermid.
The Terip pair led 7-3 before Chris and Debbie mounted a comeback, narrowly going down in a tie break.
Kerry Hewlett and Annabelle Hayes had a much quicker set against Meg Ford and Jenny Martin, winning 8-1.
In the second set, the two left handers Frances and Meg combined well to defeat Chris and Kerry 8-5, while Debbie and Annabelle responded with an 8-3 win.
The final two sets finished 8-2, with Chris and Annabelle winning for Creighton’s Creek, and Phoebe and Meg securing one for Terip.
At the end of the day the teams were three sets apiece, but Creighton’s Creek claimed victory on games 38-30.
In Benalla, Kate Campbell, Claire Sharp, Maureen Jewell, and Deb Siggers delivered a masterclass on the lawn in ideal conditions.
Delatite’s Karyn Fraser, Carolyn Murray, Deb McCormack, Loretta Armitage, and Deb Mims combined well, enjoying quality tennis on the grass courts and Benalla’s warm hospitality.
Benalla were convincing winners, 6/48 to 0/13.
Wappan welcomed Seven Creeks to excellent conditions in Mansfield, with Anna Speirs, Jenny Bell, Rhonda Carpenter, and Carol Watts taking both openers, one after a lengthy battle.
Rowena Ellis, Nicola Enright, Julie Brook, and Mary Kelly then found their rhythm, using cross court angles to good effect.
Rowena and Julie won their set comfortably with patient rallies and strong serving.
Wappan prevailed 5/44 to 1/23.
After Round 13 the ladder stands as follows: Euroa 93.5, Terip 79, Wappan 77, Moglonemby 76.5, Benalla 61.5, Mansfield 55, Creighton’s Creek 43.5, Seven Creeks 27, Delatite 27.
