STRATHBOGIE GOLF CLUB
By KRISTEN MOORE
Saturday we played Stableford and, with the rain we had, the fairways certainly played a big part in the day’s event.
The men’s winner was Grant Pearce with a score of 32 points.
The ladies winner was Rebecca Newham with a score of 33 points.
Line balls were won by Peter Smith, Nathan Macauley, and Craig Mercuri, all on 31 points.
Nearest the pin winners were:
Fourth hole: Peter Smith
Eighth hole: Nathan Macauley
15th hole: Phil Fry
17th hole: Mick Dixey
The men’s drive and pitch winner was Glen Pearce.
The ladies drive and pitch winner was Kerry Hewlett.
The straightest drive was won by Anthony Newham, beating his wife with his only straight drive of the day.
It was great to have Mick Bolton visit and play with some of the club members on Saturday.
We are saddened to hear of the passing of Irene Jones who was a much loved member of our club for many years and will be fondly remembered.
We offer our sincere condolences to her family and friends.

AVENEL GOLF
By LYN CARRACHER
First things first – a big thanks to Mark Hannigan, Tim Batten, and Bill Harmeston for cleaning up the “roman candle” which fell onto the sixteenth fairway on Saturday morning.
Saturday was the July Monthly Medal and although the field was smaller than it has been in recent weeks, some great scores were had.
Shane Black managed to break 80 for the first time from the Blue tees, shooting 79 for 70 net which also gave him his first Monthly Medal.
Lance Carracher was runner up, with 71 net.
Line balls went to Hudson Black on 74 and Marg Harrison on 75.
Marg was thrilled to win the Ladies Medal, which she said “only took me 10 years.” She has been playing consistent golf recently so well done Marg.
Only two of the NTP/D & P balls were claimed – Shane won the NTP on 18, Alex Smith took out the D & P on the 7th and also collected another ball for the least putts (23) in a countback from Hudson. His nine putts on the back nine assured him of the win.
The Imperial Hotel voucher was won by Tim – just reward for his work around the course this week.
There’s been a change to this Saturday’s golf – it will be Stableford off the short course tees, with a twist, that twist being you can only use 3 clubs plus your putter, so choose wisely.
Probably a good idea to only have the clubs you choose in your bag so you’re not tempted to use others.
It should be a fun day, so come along and enjoy.
Good golfing.
NAGAMBIE GOLF
By DAVID LOVE
The Nagambie course once again had its revenge on golfers with tough conditions making players earn every point they achieved in Sunday's Stableford event.
The second round of the social club trophy was played with Hugh Lawrence claiming the win with 35 stableford points, his upright action and low trajectory exactly what was needed to perform in the strong northerly that blew from start to finish.
Runner up went to Gary Bow using all his experience to put together 33 points with some good hole outs throughout the round, top three was Jeremy Ezard on 32 points showing signs of form with a club championship defence only 3 weeks away.
The nearest the pin prizes went to Jim Doyle doing the double with two great shots executed on the 3rd & 13th, and Mick O'Connell got the ball into the air as required to claim the 16th.
Next week's golf is a stroke event with B. Leviston on office duty and B. Cassar in the bar.
