AVENEL GOLF CLUB

Another stunning day for golf on Saturday, Stableford off the yellow tees was the day’s challenge and there were some ripping scores.
After having a shocker last time out at Avenel, Terry Lowis torched the yellow course.
Playing off a handicap of 14, he shot two over the card, 48 points, and easily won the day’s play.
Well done, Terry was a popular winner on the day, who generously put his $42 voucher over the bar to enjoy.
Runner up was Kev Fiorini with a fine 42 points, looking resplendent on the red and black seats of the golf cart.
He is in some great form.
Balls went to Marg Harrison and Mark Hannigan, both on 40 points.
NTP on the fifth, eighth, and Drive and Pitch on the 17th was Shane Black; Lyn Carracher and D Pon on the ninth; while the NTPs on the 14th was Tim Batten and the 18th Jed Smith.
The birdie hole was the sixth, with Jed and Mark saluting. Jed also had an eagle on the 16th.
The Avenel Imperial Hotel raffle $50 voucher was won by Shane Black.
The Friday night members draw has jackpotted again after Alex Smith was drawn but not present, as he was resting and relaxing before a work trip.
Next week it will be $50.
Next Saturday, 25 October, is the Gold Medal round and the last round of winter competition golf for the season.
Presentation night will follow the day’s play with a BBQ dinner at the clubhouse.
Members are asked to bring a salad to share; meat and bread will be supplied by the club.
The day’s competition will be stroke, with the following players also eligible for the Gold Medal:
Cam Bassett, Dee Wright, Jared Smith, Lyn Carracher, Dave Fullager, Dhana Furlanetto, Shane Black, Marg Harrison, Tim Batten, Campbell Smith, Sam Hannigan and Mark Hannigan.
Hope to see all our members there for the round and the presentations to follow.
On Sunday, the Strathbogie Men’s tournament was held in great weather, and the course was well presented by John Moore and the team.
Campbell Smith won B grade runner up handicap with 81 net 70, and Rayden Hannigan won C grade runner up handicap with 109 net 72.
Cheers and good golfing.
NAGAMBIE GOLF CLUB
By DAVID LOVE
THE Nagambie Golf Club gold medal play off had 12 different medalists throughout the year, with 10 of the 12 fronting up for a chance to take home gold.
Steve Donnison has been an in form player around the club, so it was no surprise to see him claim the gold with a 79-12-67, also finishing runner up in the day’s stroke event, missing out on a count back.
Donnison’s form over the last 12 months has been faultless, with strong results in fourballs and pennant across the season.
The winner of the day’s stroke event was Hugh Lawrence, twirling his way to 91-24-67.
Lawrence has also enjoyed a good year after winning the C grade championships in August.
Finishing third was the ever-competitive Phil Hageman, who shot a fabulous 89-19-70.
The nearest the pin prizes went to Ryan Ezard, showing great touch at the 13th, and Steve Donnison, getting it done as always at the 16th.
Next week’s golf is the Nagambie Open Tournament, with a Stableford event on Friday, 24 October, hit off at 10am.
Fourball best ball on Sunday, 26 October, hit off at 10am.
Entries can be forwarded to David on 0419 672 442.
