STRATHBOGIE GOLF CLUB

The recent heavy rain and strong winds left many trees down, but thanks to the efforts of volunteers, the course was ready for play on Saturday 6 September.

Players competed in the Stroke and Monthly Medal, with Jim McAlister taking out the men’s medal with a nett 70.

Lineball winners included Phil Fry, Peter Smith, Anthony Newham, and David Kennett, while nearest the pin honours went to John Moore, Peter Smith, and Nigel Dent.

Other achievements included Peter Boyd for the straightest drive, Phil Fry for putting, and Nathan Macaulay, and Rebecca Newham for drive and pitch.

Next week, Strathbogie golfers will contest a Stableford round, with Chris Bennett on duty.

AVENEL GOLF CLUB

Saturday saw the September Monthly Medal and semi-finals of the Men’s Club Championships, producing exciting results.

In A Grade, young Campbell Smith narrowly defeated his father Jed one up, while Shane Black overcame Dale Smith two up.

In B Grade, Daniel Neville beat Alex Smith five and four, and Tim Batten overcame last year’s champion Dave Fullager seven and five.

The upcoming finals promise thrilling contests:

Shane Black vs Campbell Smith (Club Championship), Daniel Neville vs Tim Batten (B Grade Bernie Stevens Trophy), Mark Hannigan vs Kev Fiorini (No. one Club Trophy), and first year players Rachel Smith and Sam Hannigan battling for the Ladies Championship.

Daily winners included visitor Lachie O’Brien (nett 65), Men’s Monthly Medal winner Campbell Smith (nett 71), and Sam Hannigan, claiming her first-ever Ladies Medal.

Balls down the line went to Tim Batten and Mark Hannigan.

Nearest the pin honours were claimed by Sam Hannigan, Daniel Neville, and Terry Lowis, with Shane Black and Dale Smith winning drive and pitch prizes.

The Avenel Imperial Hotel $50 voucher went to the Hannigans.

A reminder: the Ladies Tournament is on tomorrow, with space for additional players and contributions of cakes or slices for afternoon tea encouraged.

EUROA LADIES GOLF

Wednesday saw Stroke and the first round of the Dot Rule Trophy, with Robin Lied taking the 18-hole win (nett 74) and Genevieve Calvert claiming the nine hole win on a countback.

Mandy Edwards had the least putts with 27.

Nearest the pin honours went to Robin Lied, Sarah Bullen, and Deb Cox, while Michelle Thomson took both drive and pitch prizes.

On Saturday, Deb Cox won the Monthly Medal (nett 71) in excellent conditions, while balls down the line were claimed by Bethan Burton, Levenia Redfern, and Annette Smith.

Scratch honours in A Grade went to Emily Flavel, with Michelle Thomson winning least putts.

Nearest the pin and drive and pitch prizes were shared among Grace Eddy, Robin Lied, Bethan Burton, Lorraine Ellis, and Jean Duff.

EUROA GOLF CLUB

Spring has seen a strong return of golfers, with 48 players competing in the September Monthly Medal (sponsored by Drummond Golf).

Division 1 was won by Ash Pedder (nett 72 on countback), while Garry Ross took Division 2 (nett 71).

Ball winners included Ross Wishart, Paddy McCarthy, and Matt Mills, with Richard Eddy claiming the putting competition with 25 putts.

Highlights included Ed Carracher eagling the 13th and the two ball birdy competition split among Keith Seeber, Ed Carracher, Sam Mills, and Dale McIntosh.

Wednesday’s Stableford round was won by Dick Farmer (36 points), with ball winners Don Bubeck and Brian Rosenbrock.

Nearest the pins went to Charlie Walker and Bill Wright. Dalhousie Vets are on Thursday, with next Saturday hosting a Stableford round.

NAGAMBIE GOLF CLUB

The September Monthly Medal at Nagambie drew a smaller field due to rain, making the closing holes challenging.

Gary Bow triumphed with a nett 71, taking home the Seymour Club match day voucher, while Rod Wilson finished runner-up (nett 72) and Terry Wallis was third (nett 73).

The nearest the pin went to Hugh Lawrence on the tough 16th.

Next week sees the club’s biggest fourball of the year, the Goulburn Cup, with assembly at 9.30am for a 10.00am shotgun start.
