Midfield magic drives Euroa Under-12s soccer team forward

UNDER 12

By HAYLEY ROWAN

THE under-12 boys turned up ready to compete against the in-form Kialla United Dragons — and from the first whistle, they were switched-on and ready to go.

Despite a few players recovering from colds and illness, everyone showed up, displaying heart, resilience, and strong team spirit.

Their commitment to one another was on full display, offering much-needed substitutions and energy from the sidelines.

On the pitch, the boys played with confidence, combining solid defence, a hard-working midfield and smart teamwork to set up the strikers for success.

Jasper struck twice with his usual class and sharp finishing, while Brodie also found the net twice through strong, determined play.

Sadly, Brodie sustained a leg injury in a follow-up match and will be missed over the coming weeks.

He remains a vital part of the team, and everyone is behind him as he recovers.

In the second half, Leo provided a moment of brilliance, swapping his goalkeeper gloves for boots and launching a sensational long-range shot that found the back of the net — a goal to remember.

The final score was a commanding 5–1 win.

A strong display of teamwork, sportsmanship and the close bond these boys share — both on and off the field.

Weekly Awards:

Brodie – for his relentless hard-running and ability to generate goal-scoring opportunities, having come close so many times in recent weeks.

Liam – with exceptional running, always in the right place, pushing the pace and lifting the group’s energy.

Harry – who took on goalkeeping duties in the last half and pulled off a spectacular double-save from a penalty shot.

First stopping the strike, then reacting instantly to deny the follow-up.

UNDER 8

THE Euroa Thunder under-8s delivered a strong display of teamwork and determination on Saturday morning, securing a well-earned 2–0 win over Shepparton All Saints.

Tommy stepped up in goals this week, making five solid saves and confidently distributing the ball wide to his teammates, setting the tone for the match.

Up front, Skylar was in excellent form, scoring both of Euroa’s goals with powerful strikes that impressed the crowd.

The entire team contributed to the win.

Darcy covered every blade of grass as he ran forward, back and everywhere in between.

Noah chased down every loose ball with determination, while Patrick was a wall in defence, blocking everything that came his way.

Isaiah maintained focus in the forward line, putting in some strong tackles and keeping the pressure on.

In the middle of the pitch, Rex controlled the tempo with clever passes, accurate throw-ins and brave tackles.

He, along with Darcy, Noah and Patrick, came close to scoring a third goal through a series of free kicks that kept the crowd engaged.

A big thank you goes to coach Julio, whose energy, passion and clear guidance continue to bring out the best in the Thunder squad each week.

Congratulations to Skylar for her ‘player-of-the-match’ performance.

Euroa Thunder Strike Again with a 2–0 Victory

Well done, Euroa Thunder – another solid match completed.

UNDER 10

THE Euroa under-10s took on St Mels for their third game of the season.

With a full squad available, the team came out ready to compete.

Rowan took on goalkeeping duties in the first half and made several impressive saves.

Coming off his line with confidence and attacking the ball, Rowan was everywhere.

Despite his efforts, Euroa’s defence was tested, and four goals were conceded in the half.

Hunter had some good moments, even using his header to pass the ball to teammates.

There were, however, some promising passages of play, including another goal from Teddy, who remains the only goal scorer for the under-10s so far.

Teddy looked comfortable in space up front and continued his strong form.

With the scoreline at 4–1, the team knew there needed to be a greater emphasis on defence.

The coach challenged the players not to concede any more goals—and the team responded.

Ritchie took over as goalkeeper in the second half and was rock solid in defence.

Encouraging the defenders to push up the field, this sparked some strong runs from Anakin.

Rowan was moved into the midfield, where he balanced attacking flair with tight marking on St Mels’ key players.

A second goal for Euroa looked so close, with Joseph, Hudson and Ryder delivering quality possession through the midfield.

Monty and Teddy looked particularly dangerous as the momentum swung Euroa’s way.

However, in a lapse at the back, St Mels’ best player managed to sneak a shot past Ritchie.

It was the only goal scored in the second half—a much improved defensive showing.

There was also a light-hearted moment that left the sideline in laughter.

While attempting to position the players on the field, the coach mistakenly called out to Hunter Sessions using the wrong name.

“My name isn’t Hudson, it’s Hunter,” he shouted back, catching the coach off guard and prompting laughter from the parents on the sidelines.

Another sign of progress was the fact that the kids were figuring out how to throw the ball in from the sidelines.

On the field, the team continues to enjoy the experience and, little by little, are making steady improvement.

SCOREBOARD: Euroa 1 defeated by St Mels 5.

AWARDS: Joseph and Teddy.
