Getting ready for Whitfield Community Centre AGM in June

FOR over 40 years, the Upper King Valley community has overcome great odds to keep the Whitfield Community Centre building alive, creating a place of respect, collaboration, and meaningful connection that is accessible to people of all ages and cultures.

Most recently, it has been home to Whitfield Community Childcare and Kinder.

Soon, the childcare and kinder service will operate from the Whitfield Primary School site, leaving the community centre available for a new community use.

On 17 June at 6pm, there will be an AGM for the community centre and community members are warmly invited to join and help take this next step in making this central facility available for the community’s benefit.

The AGM will be followed by a Special General Meeting to ensure the name and purpose of this incorporated body reflect the community centre’s purpose.

The proposed purpose is: to advance the social, public and environmental welfare of the King Valley community, and maintain the community centre and public liability insurance.

The proposed adjusted name is 'Upper King Valley Community Centre Inc'.

A committee will be elected at the AGM, with interested community members sought to join this committee.

To be part of decision making for the community centre you will need to become a general member of the existing King Valley Children’s Services Group Inc at least 10 business days before the AGM.

This will allow you, at the AGM on 17 June, to nominate to be a committee member, and to have voting rights on nominations and decisions.

Works begin on trail to Gentle Annie Lane

THE Rural City of Wangaratta has this week begun works to extend a walking and cycling trail from Whitty Lane to Gentle Annie Lane along Wangaratta-Whitfield Road.

The trail extension is the final section of a shared path developed as part of the township enhancement and revitalisation initiatives under the Prosecco Road Project, made possible through funding from the State Government’s Tourism Infrastructure Program.

The trail will run between Whitty Lane and Newton Lane before crossing the main road to connect with Gentle Annie Lane, and are expected to be completed by the end of June.
