Doyennes' moment in the sun

With International Rural Women's Day recognised this week, all eyes will be pointing north of Nagambie on Friday 17 October when a more local Rural Women's Day will be held at Wahring in a luncheon to celebrate those women who love to call rural Australia home, and to recognise the extraordinary growth of the event in only six years.

Rural Women's Day (RWD) Ltd. is a not-for-profit organisation that focuses on connecting, collaborating, and celebrating women from rural and regional communities across Australia and New Zealand.

Featuring at the event for the first time will be wine tasting, giving rise to the showcasing of three talented female wine makers from Strathbogie Shire, who not only create outstanding wines, but also champion and uplift each another – exactly the spirit that RWD is all about.

Guest speakers will include Narelle King from Tar and Roses winemakers in Nagambie, Sarah Gough from Box Grove Vineyard near Avenel, and Fowles Wines' much celebrated Tegan Clydesdale.

Apiarist Laura Benbow from Apiary Made in Trawool, south of Seymour, will also be special guest speaker.

The organisation has grown from its inaugural sold-out event in 2019 to host over 20 events nation wide.

Founder and managing director Jackie Elliott said the goal of RWD was to connect rural and regional women through community, collaboration, and celebration, welcoming those resourceful women who are the decision makers, leaders, business women, entrepreneurs, and creative thinkers who all love to call rural Australia home.

Women from all walks of life are welcome to the event to join a collaborative community of likeminded rural women, who are often isolated and sometimes connected only through social media.

It is an opportunity to make new bonds and strengthen old ones, recharge, and lift up the community by celebrating everything that makes rural women extraordinary.

The event will be held at 233 Morningside Rd, Wahring on Friday October 17 at 11am-4pm.
