Rene takes a tour of the silo art trail

AWARD winning local photographer Rene Martens recently embarked on a whistle–stop tour of the local attractions on the Australian Silo Art Trail.

The trail phenomenon originated in the Wimmera Mallee town of Brim, but it has been adopted by small rural communities across the nation, who initiated their own projects and set to work with renowned artists to transform grain silos and other infrastructure into epic works of art.

Each one tells a unique story about their location and in many cases it has drawn thousands of visitors each year and revitalised places which for a long time had been undiscovered and off the main tourist trail.

On this day, Rene visited Goorambat, Devenish, St James and Tungamah and took photos from the ground and using a drone, bringing these amazing, large–scale murals to life.
