Dairy effluent, Aussie’s answer

WHEN Australian Pump Industries launched their 'self priming revolution', it didn't take long for pump dealers around the country to realise what a gift it was for end users.

The ability to hook up the suction hose, simply fill the pump bowl with water and then start the electric motor is a major breakthrough in convenience.

Dairy farms were an obvious major application, where effluent needs to be moved out of the milking parlour and into the tanks where it can be broken down and effectively used for fertiliser.

The top quality, ISO 9001 compliant motor pump range now extends all the way through to both high volume and high head self priming pumps to suit almost any application.

The first world, Aussie cast iron GMP motor pumps are loaded with features.

These include a big cast iron open impeller with the ability to handle solids in suspension, a stainless steel wear plate incorporated within the pump chamber and silicon carbide seal.

Most importantly, a front mounted clean–out port makes is simple for chokes to be cleared without having to disconnect pipework or dismantle the pump.

All pumps are fitted with both a top mounted priming plug and a drain plug which enables the pumps to be easily drained without any form of dismantling.

Water management has become the big issue on dairy farms, and to a large extent that gets back to efficiency of pumps being used, their availability and of course, their ease of operation.

Aussie Pumps has expanded its self–priming motor pump range to include 4" pumps that can handle up to 2,300 lpm and heads as high as 29 metres.

Those 4" pumps are on the market for only $8,311+GST, a fraction of the cost of more exotic equivalents from the US or Europe.

Aussie also introduced a 22 kW 3" semi trash pump that delivers up to 87 metres head, that's over 100 psi in terms of pressure, in the form of their new model B3ZPM–A/ST series.

That pump, designed originally for transferring waste effluent to the paddock, set a new standard for trash pump performance and value for money.

"We know that abrasion can cause excessive pump wear in effluent applications," said chief engineer, John Hales.

"To combat that, we've introduced optional 316 stainless steel impellers for most of the range.

"They are being used in applications as diverse as concrete batch plants and even exploration drill rigs."

Small but mighty

The latest addition is small utility semi trash pump (1 ½" ports) designed for jobs requiring flows of no more than 200 or 300 litres per minute.

Called the B1.5KQ–A/ST series, pumps are available in both 240 volt and 415 volt close coupled configuration.

These mono block units are particularly cost effective and with Aussie putting them on the market for only $1,392 + GST.

They are cast iron and have all the same features and the rest of the range including a stainless wear plate, silicon carbide seals and of course their unique self priming ability.

Yes, it will have a 316 stainless steel impeller option as well.

316 stainless steel options

The cast iron motor pumps are also available in cast 316 stainless steel with ports up to 4".

They deliver the same performance as the cast iron equivalent.

316 stainless steel is both corrosion and abrasion resistant and will handle caustics, whey and other corrosive liquids that are involved in the dairy industry.

Engine drive trash pumps

Climate change is out there and can't be ignored.

That means dairies will face occasional power issues.

Many operators are looking to engine drive trash pumps to cover these emergency situations.

Australian Pump is a specialist in that area with a complete range of Honda powered trash pumps, with ports from 2" up to 4".

The pump ends carry a five year warranty, the engine is covered with Honda's three year warranty.

The trash pumps deliver flows up to 1,800 lpm and self prime with a vertical lift of 7.6 meters.

Although developed initially for construction site dewatering, these portable trash pumps, with the capacity to handle spherical solids in suspension to half the diameter of the porting can be a godsend for moving dirt water fast. The company builds Yanmar diesel powered versions as well.

Larger capacity 6" trash pumps, for serious effluent handling applications, with flows of up to 6,000 lpm are also built by the company.

"Those six inch pumps can be used not only for efficient movement of large quantities of effluent, but double as flood lifters in the event of major catastrophic weather events," said Hales.

Both the 4" and 6" trash pumps can also perform, like their electric motor equivalents, as very effective aerators in wastewater settling ponds.

Local distribution

Australian Pump have great distributors in Victoria to service the dairy farmers.

They are equipped with not only Aussie's pump range but also it is cost effective and super reliable, Australian made, stainless steel, high pressure water blasters that are designed for continuous service in dairy farms.

Prices are super competitive, the products are made to ISO 9001 quality standards, and have also become a big export success.
